Al Mootamarid was bought off the flat, winning a 1m2f novice stakes as a two-year-old for Marco Botti.

As a half-brother to Derby and Arc winner Golden Horn, he was an expensive yearling at 270,000gns. Owned by a Sheikh from the Maktoum family, Al Mootamarid ran to a high level on the flat at three and achieved a peak official rating of 86.

He was a winner for us on his second handicap hurdle start at Stratford in June 2025, following his second at Huntingdon. Returning to Stratford, he was a close third off a 6lb higher mark and ran a respectable fifth at Uttoxeter, where he may have finished closer but for a mistake two out when short of room.

Having shown a good level of ability on the flat, we are aiming for a dual-purpose campaign. He’ll be more of a summer hurdler than a winter one as he’s suited to better ground.

Ryan was a Grade 1 and Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey before his riding career was cut short by injury. Very fortunately, they have secured a yard in Naunton, a picturesque Cotswold location, a short walk from the gallops they use at Nigel Twiston-Davies’ yard. Those same gallops have produced a Gold Cup winner, two Grand National winners and countless other Grade 1 performers.
